^^ bon appétit ^^

Today I transform myself to be a Chef and Sommelier. :) Very classy huh.... Ok what's all about is a package of one hour wine master class, two hour hands on cooking and lastly an hour of tasting of what we have cooked with excellent wine for each course @ Palate Sensations. Definately it's an interesting and a rewarding experience.

Hmm the wine master class is of course not really something very in depth which a true Sommelier need years to master the knowledge, it's rather something basic of how to appreciate wines, the language, the senses. A lot of vocabalary and information about wine. All of us were kind of tricked by a rose wine when we tried to guess whether it's red or white in a black glass just by smelling its aroma. It's really not something easy afterall.

Woohoo cooking... our menu is:

Entrée : Prawn water chestnuts and red grape mixed leaf salad
Main course: Coq Au Vin served with glassed carrots and mashed potatoes
Dessert: Coffee & Vanilla Crème Brulee

It's always not easy to master french culinary skills. There is a lot of preparations, techniques and knowleadge behind. Hope I can showcase the skill to my family and friends..... hahaha. Well, as a hands on class, of course we need to do a lot of dice and slice, mixing, whisking and grinding etc. Not something terribly difficult for me to chop and chop but some how it's not so simple when it comes to finding a right mix of ingredients and to process them especially for the Crème Brulee... there is a lot of hard work to make an excellent one!

Ok after two hours of hard work in the kitchen, it's dinner time!! In fact a late lunch. With lovely prawns salad pairing with a strong Colliqure; Coq au vin with a powerful red wine, Minervois la Liviniere with a 70% percentage of Shiraz; last but not least a lovely golden color Coteaux du Layon which is very sweet to pair with the dessert. Everything is fantastic when you have good food, good wine and companions to share the good sense and good taste...... bon appétit!! :)

Happy Taiwan Trip 2009 (Part 4) - 宜蘭旅遊DIY

Comming to 宜蘭 is a journey of learning. We spent a night at 香格里拉休閒農場 (http://www.shangrilas.com.tw/index01.php), a resort at the hill top. We learn about 放天燈、搓湯圓、打陀螺 and making of handicraft products.

放天燈.... our light is flying high!!!

The cutie piggy in the farm.

Ladies are very busy desiging their own shopping bags and T-shirt with leaves & that's my creation! LOL!

Kisu is trying to play the jumbo 陀螺.

A GONG in the garden..... gong~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Another stopover is 鵝山茶園. Tea is always something famous in Taiwan. And dishes made by tea is also something should not be missed. 茶燻蛋 is one of them. This is the link of owner's blog of how we made our very own 茶燻蛋! Standard not bad!

Happy Taiwan Trip 2009 (Part 3) - 太魯閣
It is a MUST GO place if you visiting Taiwan if you have enough time. 太魯閣 is located at 花蓮, a place with traditional tribal heritage and nature scenery.

Here is the entrance part of 太魯閣. From there we can see a stream. It looks nothing during good weather, but will turn into a monster during rainy days!

The road built on the montain and the birdeye view of the running water and big boulders below.

Dare to walk on the swinging bridge????

There are many scenic location within 太魯閣, of all we visited 燕子口. The place is called 燕子口 was because in the past there were swallow building their nest in the holes at the side of the valley.

The area is not totally safe. In fact, due to earthquake and landslide the place is keep changing over time. So perhaps next time when visit again, you will see something different.

The famous Indian head! Can you spot it?

The little tunnel that leads to the temple.

The temple is built on the waterfall... wow!
Happy Taiwan Trip 2009 (Part 2) - Shopping 記 (Cosmetic & skincare)

Personally, I love shopping cosmetic and skincare items in Taiwan as they are really cheaper compare to Singapore. You can easily get something like a dollar for a piece of quality face mask!!

From our tour guide's recommendation we hopped into one of the local drugstore chains which we are able to get good discount plus free gifts since her daughter is working there. My damage was merely about NT$300 only with a box of face mask, big bottle of body lotion and my favourite facial blotters plus a lot of free gifts!! With such price you can only get the body lotion in SG.

Shopping would never be completed if you never bring home for some Shu Uemera products from TW. I can darely say you can't get any lower price from other places, yes not even HK or from their homeland Japan.

Here is theTaiwan official website with prices stated ^^

http://www.shu-uemura.com.tw

The best place to purchase is at the duty free shop at the airport terminal. There is no VAT (no hassle for vat refund) and the prices are even lower than in town!!!

My damage was NT$6,560 for 2 boxes of eye masks, 1 boxes of face mask, a combo pack of cleasing oil + cleansing water (all large size), not to mention the lovely free gift (really good value)!!!! If buying the same products in SG, it will cost 20% more!!!

Work hard, shop smart!
